William Houde is a self-taught analog photographer and a graphic design graduate. His approach to photography stems from his interest in finding intricacies amidst the grittiness of the city. The art of tapestry came to him through his material research on the physical manifestation of images, their purpose, effects and affects on our daily lives. It allows Houde to bring medium specific artifacts, like grain on film photos, to a textural plane and to give form to the aforementioned grime and roughness that appeal to him.
Anachronisms surface through Houde’s work, bringing a sharp contrast between historical mediums and modern aesthetic sensibilities.
