Raoul F. Mercier’s photographic journey began as a teenager traveling the world with limited means, where he discovered the often overlooked realities seldom captured by traditional media. Motivated by a deep-seated sympathetic curiosity, he delved into documenting marginalized communities, with a primary focus on homelessness in Montreal. Profoundly attentive to unseen narratives, he composes raw imagery that both evokes and stirs up emotion and understanding. Through self-financed projects and exhibitions, he strives to shed light on these narratives, foster connection and diversify perspectives. Raoul’s philosophy of practice allows his audience to feel the essence of the people he encounters, perhaps fitfully to identify with them, but certainly always to draw ourselves closer to them.
