Montreal-based Medina Kalač values taking photographs of private and intimate moments in the lives of those closest to her. She tells tales of instants with seemingly impromptu shots, conveying the impression of an archive of affection. Utilizing mainly Polaroid, camcorder and 35mm, she develops most of her own photographs, often with household products and ingredients. The blemishes and grit in Kalač's images embody the imperfections of the every day and the flaws of regular people in their homes. Embracing a tender authenticity, she denies perfection and seeks out connection through defect.
