Marin McMillan’s body of work reflects a particular care and awareness of our surrounding world’s mysteries, as if they let us in on an esoteric secret with every piece. Their curiosity for niche natural elements, such as calcium carbonate (the compound that makes up shells and pearls), combined with their undeniable skillset generates brilliant and profound compositions. These detail-oriented works are noticeably most influenced by ecology, mysticism, and the living and dead body. With an educational background in anthropology and roots in the west coast of BC, Marin makes visual arts, tattoos, and sculptural mobiles using found and repurposed materials. Deeply attached to the animate world, dreams, and ritual processes, their work explores adornment and ornament as a way of embodying spells, relationships, stories, and meaning, for ourselves and the worlds we occupy.
