June Gutman -

June Gutman is a self-taught artist fixated on producing tangible evidence of her experience of reality. Her acute awareness of her own existence has been present throughout her life. At an early age, her sensitivity to life resulted in a quick admittance to the psychiatric world, and she spent her formative years as a patient. As she fights to withdraw from medication taken since childhood, she is presented with many seemingly unmanageable symptoms, one of which she names "The Terror". Beyond terror, June lives with many other experiences that dodge words; many bizarre, borderline-psychedelic and sometimes mystical moments that fall into the category of "Unreality". Her art is an attempt at detailing this life in images. Simultaneously, it is a comment on the opaqueness, the privacy, the secrecy and the hidden nature of the individual mind. Her work serves as a meaningful tool to educate her audience on institutional-harm (and safe tapering methods). June is far from alone in her experience as a psychiatric-survivor and through her art, she is also fighting for those whose lives have been stolen by the very establishments claiming to be healing.
