Based in Montreal but originally from a surrounding small town, Hans’ work has been heavily influenced by marking moments spent in their mom’s basement, either gaming, making clothes or utilizing their free and unrestricted use of the internet. They craft pieces ranging from computer to wearable art, that are often toned with sly rebellious humor. Hans builds subversive visuals fished out of deep internet nostalgia, sourced from digital rabbit holes, scam ads, conspiracies and general web 1.0 eccentricities. Existential thoughts on the state of the world are decorated with the very tools that motivate these questions, rearranging digital pulp imagery into an interface that feels yet challenges its user. After jailbreaking themselves from traditional art institutions, Hans’ practice has been a process of trial and error - which allows their art to feel like an ode to queerness as a creative philosophy, a continuous self-assigned mission to generate, transform and innovate.
